Natural Countryside Park „Adlershof“
In 1909 a development and production center for German war planes emerged in an area where “daredevils in flying boxes” had once practiced on Germany’s first motor-airport. This area was enlarged in the run-up of World War II. “Trudelturm”, “Windkanal” and motor testbed are now monumental parts of the aerodynamic park on the scientific campus of Humboldt University in Berlin “Adlershof”. Only a few kilometers from there a modern park surrounding a preserved natural park developed in the former maneuvering area. The loop road, which is almost 3 km long, is a perfect place for walking, jogging and skating. In the adjacent “city-gardens” you can play beach-volleyball, try a jumping course or take a look at the “Himmelsspiegel” (sky’s mirror) a water place surrounded by plants and inviting visitors to pause and relax. Plates along the way inform visitors about the location’s history and it’s present quality as a biotope and recreational area.
