Archenhold Observatory

The „Sky Museum“ presents a number of exhibitions, „The history of astronomy“, "The Solar System“, „Observatory as a place of watching and measuring“.

The expensively restored astronomer’s working room with historic instruments from the 19th century (see picture) is especially impressive. Pictures, easily comprehensible text and models provide the visitors an enduring insight into the mentioned topics.

The refracting telescope with a length of 21 meters is the museum’s central point. It is the world’s longest and most flexible refracting telescope and was exposed by young astronomer Friedrich Archenhold on the occasion of the big Berlin Industrial Exhibition in 1896.
