A nature and landscape park is developing on the former Johannisthal airport since a couple of years, a place where culture and natural history combine and surprise during walking-tours. The free and open area still offers an impression of flying today. In 1909 Germany’s first airport was opened in Johannisthal. “From the fifties on the former airfield became part of a military establishment and was not open to the public. This supported the natural development so the former airport became a very different but not less interesting hideaway for natural “flying artists”.
