Johannes Bobrowski was born on April 9, 1917 in Tilsit. He was one of the most important lyric poets and tellers of last centuries fifties and sixties.

His poems “Schattenland Ströme” (shadowland streams) from 1962 and the novel “Levins Mühle” (Levin’s mill) from 1964 are nameable. He studied art history. After his return from war captivity he worked as a lector and moved to Friedrichshagen, where he lived and worked until his death in 1965.

His work room was conserved in its original condition and is open to the public from April to (presumably) the end of October on Sundays between 15.00 and 17.30 p.m.
